The summer dresses available in shops for little girls often seem to have a sleeveless or strappy design. I wanted to make some light-weight cotton dresses for H that would cover her shoulders so she would be more protected from the sun without having to reach for sun cream all the time.
The fabrics I chose (Makower – Full Moon Lagoon Cream Dots on Yellow and an amazing flower print from an off-cuts bin in Goldhawk Rd) were quite bright and busy so I used a simple DIY design for the pattern. I trimmed the yellow dress with white satin bias-binding to compliment the style. The dresses both have zip closures at the back.
