The Top Knot dress and romper is a newly released pattern by Gabriela of Chalk and Notch. Back in April I worked on testing the pattern but have since made another version both of which I’m sharing today as part of this week’s blog tour.
There are 3 chances to win the pattern plus some enviable prizes from fabric sponsors, but there is also 20% of the Chalk and Notch pattern shop with the code tkt20 until July 1st.
My first version of the pattern was made for my youngest as part of the testing process. I used constellation print cotton lawn and white contrasting buttons and graded between a size 2 in width and size 3 in height. I also added elastic to the ankle cuffs. After sewing up this version I came to two conclusions:
- The pattern works best with either a lightweight fabric or one with drape so that the pleat detail on the chest produces the nicest shape.
- Jumpsuit + constellation print fabric = awesome
My older daughter seemed to be experiencing the same level of envy over the constellation print jumpsuit as I was, so I set to work on a version for her, this time in a ditsy floral print on viscose. The pattern comes with dress and a shorts version of the jumpsuit and a longer sleeve but I stuck with the same options for the second version – short sleeves and trousers with elasticated cuffs. This time I graded between a size 5 in width and a size 9 in height.
The legs ended up with a little extra length but the elastic at the hem means that they aren’t too long but will have plenty of growing room.
Now to the giveaway, which is for one of three prizes listed below. To enter just click on the rafflecopter link below. I also have one copy of the pdf to give away to one of my readers, so if you’d like a chance to win and make your own version/s, leave a comment below and I’ll pick a winner at random next week. (Any comment is fine, but if you’re stuck for something to say just let me know which version of the pattern you’d make.)

Your pics made me smile. Sisters are the best. I’ve got a great sister and two daugthers 👭👭👭👭👭👭👭.
Oh my goodness that last picture is toooooo precious!!!! Love both rompers. So good!
You can see how just how much the little one adores her older sister right?
I have to agree that Jumpsuit + constellation print fabric = awesome!! Couldn’t have said it better myself 🙂 I always love your styling and these are no exception. Thank you so much for joining me! XO
Oh man, both versions are beautiful and the photo with your two daughters together is so SO sweet!
super cute!
These are so fun!!!
These are awesome! I have two boys but I would love to find a girl to make them for. My niece possibly. Love them.
It’s such a lovely pattern Kate – and whilst I try to think a bit beyond many of the gender stereotypes around kid’s clothes I’m not sure I’d be making these if I had sons either!
Now I’m wondering if I have enough constellation fabric to make a jumpsuit. It certainly is awesome.
I’ve got about a 70cm left over…swapsies?
I’ve just had a look and I have enough, whoop whoop!!! But I’ve been debating in my head what jumpsuit to make, I have 3 in mind including the Top Knot.
But we should definitely do a fabric swapsies one day. But I fear I may come out better off lol!!!!
oh these pictures are too sweet, love the jumpsuits!
